6th October, 1943: Camp - back with Jack

Why were flies ever created? Heaven knows there must be some use for them. I had no breakfast, an extra hour or two in bed, I felt at the time, would do me more good. It is strange that my opinion changes between ten and eleven each morning when the pangs of hunger creeps on. To wash a few clothes offered a problem, but drying them was certainly no problem at all. Most articles of clothing dry in about an hour.

During the morning Jack Hopgood chimed up, he was just passing thro' - so we spent the morning playing cards together. We spent the evening with them at the pictures, their last night in Egypt, our last night together.
