9th October, 1943: Camp, the final night
Lofty had to be up early this morning, he had to see the C.O. about the charge. An hour or so later, he returned smiling - they had brought the wrong charges against him and the C.O. got him out.
About mid-day we were offered another aircraft - to be briefed at 4pm. We found much navigation kit missing and had to work out how to get it all. We wrote a few more letters that night, before we were further from home.
Knowing that we had to be up early we decided not to visit the cinema, but to get some hours sleep in. This was our last night at Cairo West.
